Mission

We believe that every individual in recovery deserves the opportunity to rebuild their lives with dignity, purpose, and support. Our charity is committed to providing essential items to those navigating the challenging path of recovery from addiction. Through our unwavering dedication, we strive to alleviate the burdens often associated with this journey by supplying basic necessities such as clothing, hygiene products, and household essentials. By addressing these fundamental needs, we aim to empower individuals to focus on their recovery journey with a renewed sense of self-worth and stability.

Vision

This charity’s goal is to expand its reach and impact by establishing partnerships with a wider network of rehabilitation centers, recovery programs, and community organizations, enabling a greater number of individuals in recovery across different regions to receive donations quarterly. In order to accomplish this, the charity should be at a place where it has steady fundraising efforts and secure sustainable sources of funding to support its operations and expansion plans through fundraising campaigns, cultivating relationships with major donors and corporate sponsors, and exploring grant opportunities from foundations and government agencies.

These goals collectively reflect the charity's commitment to expanding its reach, enhancing its services, ensuring financial sustainability, measuring its impact, and advocating for systemic change in support of individuals in recovery.

Meet the Founder

My name is Joshua Mikan and I'm a person in long-term recovery. I came from a good family and had a good upbringing. I associated with the wrong people in middle school and was introduced to drugs and alcohol. My use escalated over the years. In 2016 I lost my father to cancer and I felt completely hopeless. Rather than turning to God for help, I turned to hard drugs. I thought I found a way out, some hope, a false hope. I've been in jail and rehab numerous times but I couldn't stop using. I had no control. In 2019 I was arrested and sent to a faith based rehab where I learned about the love of God and the salvation Jesus offers. I was saved and baptized there. My sobriety date is September 15, 2019. I found that the key to long-term recovery lies in a relationship and full submission to God. As a recovering addict, I know the pain, isolation, and hard work that come with overcoming addiction. I've seen how powerful even the smallest act of kindness can be—and how critical support is needed in early recovery. With that in mind, I created A Bag of Hope to provide more than just resources; I want it to offer dignity, encouragement, and a reminder that no one is ever beyond hope. Today, I use my lived experience to lead with empathy and purpose, committed to walking alongside others as they find their own path to healing.
